There are still some free places remaining at our Higher Education Academy-funded Seminar on Public Engagement. The event takes place on Monday 30th April in John Dalton Building room E0.05.
Universities are obliged to proactively engage in dialogue with funding bodies, supporting communities, and customers. In this workshop we will hear about the experiences of a number of institutions in engaging the public with research, building relationships between community and industry, using media tools to convey complex ideas to the public, schools and college liaison, and rewarding excellence in public engagement.
We will debate the validity and value of public engagement, discuss the challenges, benefits and opportunities of public engagement, and identify good practice in public engagement. The seminar will use some examples from geography, earth and environmental science, but much of the programme will be of generic interest.
Speakers include Professor Rob Duck (University of Dundee), Dr Richard Holliman and Dr Janet Sumner (Open University), Professor Callum Thomas, School of Science and Environment, MMU.
If you would like to attend this event please email the seminar convenor, Dawn Nicholson (d.nicholson@mmu.ac.uk) or call me on extension 6232. Further details including the full programme are available at http://www.dawntnicholson.org.uk/publicengagement.html.
