ADAM Fairhall’s commission for the 2011 Manchester Jazz Festival, entitled ‘The Imaginary Delta’ is released on CD this month on the SLAM Productions label.

Dr Fairhall is programme leader for Popular Musics in MMU Cheshire’s Department of Contemporary Arts. His suite of compositions was recorded live at Manchester’s Band on the Wall and then re-mixed and mastered by Dr Jason Woolley, programme leader for Creative Music Production in the Department.

The CD has already received a 5 star review in the Manchester Evening News, and Adam has been notified by the New York Jazz Record and Jazzwise magazine that favourable reviews will be forthcoming. Adam is to be interviewed for Jazzwise later this month.

John Smith, a senior lecturer in the Institute of Education, was recently awarded a prize for the best poster presentation at the “7th Newcastle-upon-Tyne Postgraduate Conference in Linguistics”.  The poster was based on John’s research into language and cognition and demonstrates his LACA model for developing linguistic awareness in primary classrooms.
