Posted: Friday, 18th May 2012

Education Building of the Year

OUR superb Business School and Student Hub has won its first award for building excellence.

The £75 million structure at All Saints scooped Best Education Development from the North West LABC Awards.

Earlier this year the MMUBS-Hub was shortlisted for Building of the Year by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

The building, which is open for student services and opens as a fully functioning business School from September has received praise from all quarters, incuding Vice Chancellor John Brooks who commented on ManMetLife recently: “I hope you will all agree that the building looks and feels world-class and will greatly enhance the staff and student experience.

Workmanship

Designed by architects Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios and built by Sir Robert McAlpine, the LABC award was made to the latter “for recognition of their high standards of construction and workmanship.”

Connor McAlorum, project manager said: “The building creates state of the art facilities for both staff and students, was delivered on time and budget to a high build standard which also meets our demanding environmental standards.

“Sir Robert McAlpine’s team worked seamlessly with our appointed design team over two years and nine months of concentrated and focused effort. This has produced an outstanding building which is subject to extensive favourable comment both in the Higher Education sector and in broader, commercial circles.

“I believe that this is a project that everyone involved can feel justly proud.”
