COLLEAGUES in the Centre for Student Employability and Success are celebrating after gaining an exacting industry standard for the quality of their services.
The Centre which offers services in careers and employability and also supports students with disabilities, achieved the Matrix Quality Standard endorsed by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
Matrix is a nationally-recognised award which promotes the delivery of high quality services by ensuring that organisations evaluate their work regularly and invest in the professional development of their staff.
It provides a benchmark for organisations to assess their advice and support services which ultimately support individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals.
Two years in the making
Rita Lewin, Head of Student Employability and Success said: “This was an exacting process, for which we spent two years preparing.
“An assessor spent four days on site, concentrating on how our work is planned and managed ; what steps we take to get feedback from our stakeholders; and how we ensure that this feedback informs future service development.”
Matrix staff consulted with students, academic staff, employers and senior managers to get a feel for the Centre’s contribution towards the success of students and graduates.
Adds Rita: "The staff and managers in both services have worked extremely hard to achieve this success, and it is particularly pleasing that the award is in place in good time for our move into the new Employability Hub at the end of March 2012."
